Beautiful Benalmadena
Benalmadena is made up of three different villages – Benalmadena Costa with a 9km long beach and a 2km long promenade. Benalmadena Pueblo set in the hills above the coast, a beautiful Andalucian village of whitewashed houses and flowers covering the balconies in the narrow streets; and then closer to the coast again is Arroyo de la Miel (stream of honey in English), a small but modern and fashionable town of shops and businesses, popular with tourists.
One of the highlights of Benalmadena Costa is the beautiful promenade with it’s fantastic marina (puerto) which has 1000 moorings and what many authorities have claimed to be the best marina in the world. It has a new shopping centre plus 200 shops, bars and restaurants and also a sailing school, diving school and a Sea Life Centre aquarium. There is something for everyone in Benalmadena Costa; the beautiful Paloma Park was created quite recently and features lovely gardens, a large lake with a fountain, ducks, swans and other wildlife - a favourite with all.
Golf on the Costa del Sol There are over fifty golf courses on the 'Costa del Golf'. The nearest to Benalmadena is Golf Torrequebrada, designed by Pepe Garcedo and consisting of 18 holes over 5,763 m with a par of 72. This course was opened in 1976 and has hosted the Spanish open. A regular at the course is Miguel Angel Jimenez who lives locally.
